About Dr. Caillouette

Dr. Caillouette is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in Adult Reconstructive Surgery, performing close to 700 surgeries in 2011. He is Chairman of Newport Orthopedic Institute; an 18-physician group based in Newport Beach, California and was elected to serve as the founding Surgeon in Chief/Chief of Staff for Hoag Orthopedic Institute.

Dr. Caillouette has been involved in the research, design, development and commercialization of numerous orthopedic devices dating to 1989. He holds 9 US patents for biomedical products and methods and has two pending.

Dr. Caillouette has been involved in multiple entrepreneurial endeavors. He founded and raised the venture capital for Advanced Osseous Technologies in 1989 to develop ultrasonic technology. He served as CEO and Chairman and subsequently sold the biotech company to Biomet in 1992. He has been a design surgeon and consultant to DePuy/J&J since 1996 where his additional design/development projects have resulted in commercialization of three separate hip replacement designs, instruments and software for computer assisted knee replacement, as well as instruments and components for the next generation knee replacement system.

In addition to health care, Dr. Caillouette has a passion for education. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate with an Economics degree from Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut, he has served as a Trustee at the primary, high school and college levels in the US. He was a founder of Sage Hill School, and served as the founding Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was elected and has served as President of the California Orthopedic Association and currently serves as a member of various research groups involved in care delivery and healthcare policy. His current area of focus is health care economics and designing orthopedic care delivery models and new payment methodology for the national marketplace.
