Less-Invasive Treatments

Joint Injections

Joint injections, or viscosupplementation, may help to alleviate the discomfort from your arthritis for 6 months or longer. This includes Synvisc, Orthovisc, Hyalgan, Supart, and Arthrease. These injections lubricate the joint, are drug-free, and act like “shock absorbers” in your knee. It typically entails 1, 3 or 5 injections (1 per week) and reduces pain in 50-70% of patients.

Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure orthopedic surgeons use to visualize, diagnose and treat problems inside a joint. A small incision will be made to insert the arthroscope. Several other incisions may be made to see other parts of the joint or insert other instruments.
